The Polish Film Festival in Vilnius focuses on new productions, such as Małgorzata Szumowska’s award-winning Mug and Piotr Domalewski’s Silent Night, but it also includes a selection of classics of Polish cinema, notably Andrzej Wajda’s Canal and Man of Marble.

There are also films about Polish history, notably the Katyń massacre of Polish officers in Soviet Russia in 1940 and about the role of Polish pilots in the Battle of Britain.

One of the highlights of the festival is the world premiere of a documentary by Kinga Dębska which tells the story of charismatic Polish nun Michaela Rak, who several years ago founded a hospice in Vilnius for terminally-ill adults and children.

It was built on the site of a ruined convent which was donated to the Sisters of Divine Mercy by the Archbishop of Vilnius.

The Polish Film Festival in Vilnius is being held for the 18th time. (mk/pk)
