Polish cinematographer Wiesław Zdort dies at 87

Veteran Polish cinematographer Wiesław Zdort has died at the age of 87, public broadcaster TVP Kultura reported on Tuesday, citing his family.

A graduate of and longtime lecturer at the National Film School in the central city of Łódź, Zdort worked with many well-known Polish film directors during his long career as a cinematographer.

He is best remembered for his work on films including Kazimierz Kutz's Salt of the Black Earth, Death Like a Slice of Bread and The Beads of One Rosary, and Krzysztof Kieślowski's The Decalogue: One.

He also worked on productions by his film director wife Barbara Sass-Zdort, who died in 2015.

In 1995, he won an award at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia for his cinematography on his wife's movie Pokuszenie (The Temptation).

Ten years later, he was singled out for praise for his work on Kutz movies at the Camerimage International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography in Łódź.

In 2014, he received a lifetime achievement award from the Polish Filmmakers Association.
