The mine opened in 1791. It now offers several underground tourist routes, with displays of mining equipment from the last two centuries and a boat trip along an underground river.

The European Heritage Awards ceremony is to be held on October 29 in Paris, during the European Heritage Congress.

The awards promote best practices related to heritage conservation, management, research and education.
