The Historical Institute of the Jagiellonian University, Krakow, has joined forces with the city's historical museum to offer a novel post-diploma course in Krakow Studies.

“We are expecting considerable interest,” said museum curator Piotr Hapanowicz, in an interview with Krakow-based daily Dziennik Polski.

The course will explore many aspects of the sometime royal capital in southern Poland, taking in history, art history, literary history, as well as archaeology, ethnography and law.

The academics behind the idea found that only the universities of Warsaw and Gdansk offer comparable courses in Warsaw and Gdansk Studies.

“Such courses cannot be found in Poznan, Wroclaw or Lodz,” Hapanowicz noted.

The leaders of the programme hope to attract not only teachers and tourist guides, but anyone with an abiding interest in the city of both today and yesterday. (nh)
