Poland’s piano virtuoso Rafał Blechacz has recorded his fourth CD for Deutsche Grammophon.

The release is part of an exclusive contract which he signed with the company in 2006, following his victory in the Chopin International Competition in Warsaw the previous year.

The recording features works by Claude Debussy (Pour le piano, Estampes) and the Polish composer Karol Szymanowski (Prelude and Fugue in C sharp minor, Third Sonata in C minor).

Blechacz’s previous three CDs for Deutsche Grammophon featured Chopin’s Preludes, a selection of sonatas by the Viennese classics, and Chopin’s Piano Concertos with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam under the famous Polish conductor Jerzy Semkow.

They have all been commercial successes, selling over 160,000 copies worldwide.

The latest CD hits the international music market on 1 February but you can listen to excerpts of it here. (mk/pg)
