A new music centre has opened in the town of Kielce, southern Poland.
The inaugurating concert by the Kielce Symphony Orchestra was conducted by its music director Jacek Rogala and featured six pieces by contemporary Polish composers commissioned specially for the occasion.
The new facility comprises two concert halls, seating 515 and 200, rehearsal and conference rooms, recording studios, apartments for visiting artists and a patio in which open-air chamber concerts will be held in the summer.
The cost of the project was around 15 million euros, 53 percent of which has been covered from an EU programme ‘Infrastructure and Environment’.
Kielce has around 200, 000 inhabitants.
Music centres are currently under construction in several other Polish towns, including Wrocław, Gorzów, Toruń and Szczecin. (mk)
