Seventh travel company in Poland goes bust this summer

Aquamaris has announced that it has filed for bankruptcy, becoming the seventh travel agency since early July in Poland to announce its insolvency.

The company, based in Bielsko-Bialo in southern Poland,has a guarantee of 120,000 zloty (30,000 euro) to be used to return 600 stranded customers in Bulgaria, Crete and Egypt to Poland.

On Monday, Travel Elektra, based in Walbrzych, Lower Silesia, which organised bus trips to Greece went bankrupt.

July also saw the insolvency of Alba Tour, Africano Travel, Sky Club, Blue Rays and Athena.

The OLT Express budget airline in Poland also announced that it had ceased trading due to insolvency.

The largest of the bankruptcies was Sky Club, however, with 23,000 customers left stranded abroad. The Prosecutor's Office subsequently launched an investigation of fraud.

The operation to bring tourists back to Poland lasted nearly two weeks. (pg)
