The chief points of the discussion will be public finances, unemployment and family policy.

Some forty noted economists have been invited to the meeting, although Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski has not received an invitation.

“I do not not recall any serious statements from Rostowski, and we want to have a serious debate,” Kaczynski has said, as cited by the Polish Press Agency.

Earlier this month, Rostowski described Law and Justice's recent proposals for the economy as “unsustainable” and “a classic financial pyramid.”

Kaczynski's plans included a reorganisation of public finances and a 10-year plan to take on unemployment, with the entire package estimated as costing 13 billion zloty (3.1 billion euro).

However, Rostowski claimed that Kaczynski's estimation of the costs was wildly inaccurate, and that 54 billion zloty (13 billion euro) would be a more authentic figure.

Rostowski has written to the economists invited to the debate that “the implementation of the economic ideas of the leader of PiS would end in defeat and the Greek scenario for the Poland.”

It is understood that about thirty economists will attend the debate. Jaroslaw Kaczynski will both open and close the discussion. (nh)
