LOT airlines says that its Boeing 787 Dreamliner is safe, after the US Federal Aviation Administration said it will take a "comprehensive review" of the plane's design, manufacture and assembly following recent security related incidents.

All Nippon Airways was forced to cancel an internal flight in Japan on Wednesday, the third such glitch in as many days involving a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

On Tuesday, Japan Airlines grounded a Dreamliner 787 at Boston Logan International Airport in the US following a fuel leak.

On Monday, a fire broke out in a battery pack in a Boeing 787 operated by JAL at the same airport.

LOT took delivery of Europe’s first Dreamliner, which can take up to 290 passengers, in November.

The first flight took place on December 14 to Prague and the first transatlantic flight to Chicago has been scheduled for January 16.

Toronto and New York will be added to the itinerary in February, with flights to Beijing beginning in March.

Marek Kucinski, a spokesman for Poland’s national carrier, says that despite the reports of problems, the aircraft is safe.

“The Polish Dreamliner made 46 flights in December alone. We have only registered what could be called minor technical glitches four times,” he said.

Poland has ordered eight Dreamliner 787s in total, in the hope that the fleet will boost the profitability of its long haul routes. (pg)
