According to the Rzeczpospolita daily, the company has now leased space in Warsaw following the registration of its subsidiary branch Amazon Corporate Services Poland last November.

A source told the paper that IT services will be its opening venture, however.

Last year, it seemed that the Amazon was all set to launch a Polish version of its retail site. To date, the company has individual sites for the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, India, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Japan, and China.

In 2012, representatives of the firm met with Polish publishers, but the project appears to have been put on ice.

Meanwhile, about a million customers in Poland per month are buying products from the the company's British hub, amazon,co.uk. Currently, Poles enjoy a free delivery if the purchase is over 25 pounds.

At present, Poland's online retail market is led by the Poznan-based Allegro, which has itself branched out into other markets, including Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic. (nh)
