Some 70 new hotels are expected to open their doors across Poland this year, and the value of new investments has been estimated at 1.4 billion zloty (323.2 million euro), a quarter of a billion more than in 2012.

International chains dominate the new openings, with Hilton alone planning to launch four new hotels in Poland in 2013 (two in Warsaw, one apiece in Lodz and Gdansk), with a further six in the pipeline, creating about 400-500 jobs.

“This is the strongest economy and also biggest country in the region, but it's still lacking in hotels from [international] brands,” commented Magdalena Sekutowska, Hilton's development director for Eastern Europe, in an interview with the Rzeczpospolita daily.

Three key investments by Hilton and Marriott alone this year are worth 460 million zloty (106.1 million euro), according to the paper.

Other new openings include a new Campanile in Bydgoszcz, a Golden Tulip outlet in Krakow, and a branch of the Italian chain B&B Hotels in Wroclaw. (nh)
