According to data obtained by the Rzeczpospolita daily, profits for 2013 could reach 80 million zloty (18.9 million euro).

The change in the industry's fortunes is partly due to a larger amount of people choosing to holiday abroad. Some 11 percent more Poles chose to holiday overseas this year, compared with 2012.

The rise in demand meant that travel operators did not have to resort to offering a rash of last minute reductions, a policy that was undertaken in previous years.

Meanwhile, the unrest in Egypt actually turned to the advantage of some firms. Many Poles were determined to holiday abroad in spite of originally hoping to travel to Egypt. As a result, more expensive alternatives were often chosen.

This May, a survey by Mondial Alliance found that Croatia was set to be the most popular destination for Polish tourists this year. Joint second were Spain and Italy, followed by Greece, and then Turkey and Great Britain. (nh)
