A statement released by PKP Cargo confirmed that the first train arrived in Warsaw on 14 October, after a two-week journey, transporting 43 containers.

The service from Suzhou in eastern China is the fruit of cooperation with container shipment company Far East Land Bridge, Russian Railways Logistics and other partners in China, Russia and Belarus.

PKP Cargo's subsidiary company Cargosped handles the logistics from the Polish side.

PKP is touting the service as a swifter alternative to shipment by sea. Shipments to European ports from China's east coast normally take 35-40 days.

PKP Cargo is due to be partly privatised this month, with 50 percent of its shares being made available. The company will make its debut on the Warsaw Stock Exchange on 31 October.

The PKP Group is currently in the process of privatising several of its companies.

The group unveiled privatisation plans in November 2012, with the necessity of covering debts of 4.3 billion zloty (1 billion euro).

The first sale to be made was that of its cable-car wing Polish Cable Lines (PKL), in May 2013. (nh)
