Sharp rise in foreign tourist spending

Figures released by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) indicate that foreigners who crossed the external EU border into Poland from July to the close of September spent over, 2.2 billion zloty (525 million euro) on goods and services.

According to GUS, popular purchases were construction materials, household appliances, as well as clothing and footwear.

Only 13.1 percent of the overall 2.2 billion sum was spent on food products.

The survey concluded that the average amount of money spent by a foreigners visiting Poland from beyond the EU border in the third quarter of 2013 was 635 zloty (151 euros).

In contrast, GUS estimates that the average expenditure of Poles abroad during the same period was 229 zloty (54.6 euro). (nh)
