Poland to boost and upgrade Leopard tank fleet

Poland is signing an agreement with Germany, Friday, for the purchase of 119 Leopard tanks, defence minister Tomasz Siemoniak has said.

The contract, to be signed in Poznan with German defence minister Thomas de Maiziere, covers the 119 Leopard tanks and nearly 200 support equipment units to be delivered in 2014 and 2015.
After the purchase Poland will have 256 Leopards and the whole fleet will be upgraded.
The total cost of upgrading Poland's existing Leopard tanks, a process which will last till 2019, is estimated to cost anything up to 1 billion zloty (250 million euros). (pg)
