2013 record year for Solaris buses

Polish bus manufacturer Solaris produced a record number of vehicles in 2013, with the vast majority being exported to Germany and Serbia.

According to data released by the company, Solaris Bus and Coach produced 1302 buses and trolleybuses last year, 1010 of which were sold abroad.

The company's revenues for 2013 reached 1.5 billion zloty (359 million euro), beating 2012's 1.3 billion zloty (311.2 million euro).

The firm's biggest success abroad has been in Germany, with 210 vehicles sold in 2013. Next was Serbia, with 200 vehicles, followed by Israel at 116.

Solaris buses are currently in action in some 28 countries, with Turkey joining the list last year.

On the home market, the company sold 292 vehicles in 2013.

The firm, which is run by Krzysztof Olszewski as a family business near Poznan, was founded in 1994.

Meanwhile, the overall production of buses in Poland rose by 4 percent in 2013, with 3715 manufactured last year. (nh)
