Poznan hosts international Arena Design fair

With exports of Polish furniture booming, the western city of Poznan is hosting the sixth edition of the international Arena Design fair.

The event, which lasts until Friday, provides an opportunity for business meetings between producers and designers, as well as a space for budding and established designers to exhibit their works.

The opening lecture was delivered by Australian design ace Brodie Neill, who is noted for such bold creations as a bench made from fibreglass, and a chair from steel rods.

Poland is currently the fourth biggest furniture manufacturer in the EU, and the seventh biggest in the world.

Industry analysts B+R Studio have forecast that Polish furniture exports will rise to 7.3 billion euros in 2014, compared to 6.9 billion euros in 2013.

In 2012, exports reached the level of 6.57 billion euros. The biggest export market at present is Germany.

The Arena Design fair will includes the presentation of the Top Design Award for 2014. (nh)
