About 7 billion zloty (1.67 billion euros) have been ear-marked for the 2014 investment, part of a wider plan that will make use of EU development funds for 2014-2020.

“We have a huge opportunity to change Poland's railways, thanks to the biggest investment programme in the history of the sector,” Deputy Minister for Infrastructure Zbigniew Klepacki has commented, as cited by the Rzeczpospolita daily.

All in all, it is expected that 15 billion euros will be invested in the programme, taking in both Polish and EU funds. (nh)
