142 foreign firms active in Poland took part in the survey, and half of them said that they intended to increase the number of people they employed in the country in 2014.

Compared with parallel surveys carried out by German chambers of commerce (AHK) in other CEE countries, Poland garnered the most enthusiastic responses.

Companies were quizzed on 21 matters, with Poland winning high marks for its improving infrastructure and the level of skill and motivation of employees, among other factors.

On a scale of 1 to 6, Poland scored 4.76 points, followed by the Czech Republic with 4.04 points and Slovakia with 3.84, followed by Estonia, Latvia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania and Croatia.

Last year, 23.5 percent of foreign firms active in Poland said that the country's economic situation was good, and 56 percent said it was satisfactory. However, in the latest survey, 35 percent said it was good and 64.4 percent concluded that it was satisfactory. (nh)
