Statistics compiled by insurance firm Euler Hermes reveal that 263 companies declared themselves bankrupt from January 2014 to the end of April, compared with 328 in 2013.

The trend was even more marked in April, with a 26.1 drop compared with the same month in 2013 (65 bankruptcies as opposed to 88).

All Polish regions save for Pomerania and Wielkopolska saw a decline in bankruptcies for April.

Euler Hermes' report for last month concluded that a recurrent managerial error is that some companies focus solely on trying to sell as many products as possible.

However, once again, the largest number of bankruptcies in April occurred in the construction industry, even though this was to a lesser degree than in 2013. A relatively mild winter helped some vulnerable construction companies soldier on this year, with little snow across much of the country. (nh)
