The Ministry of Agriculture is preparing a promotional campaign to improve the image of Polish food products in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The campaign, which is timetabled for the second half of 2014, will see 1.5 million zloty (362, 979 euro) spent on both advertisements and participation in food fairs in Prague and Bratislava.

At present, some 16 percent of the Czech Republic's food imports are from Poland.

In spite of an absence of promotional activity, during the first five months of 2014, the Czechs imported Polish food products to the value of 512.2 million euro, whereas the Slovaks imported produce to the sum of 279.7 million euro.

However, in February this year, research by MarketingSalesMedia found that 32 percent of Czechs considered Polish food unhealthy, dangerous or of poor quality.

This poor image is partly due to incidents such as the discovery in 2013 of banned veterinary drugs in chicken cutlets exported to the Czech Republic.

The Czech Republic's ministry of agriculture has twice threatened a partial ban on Polish food imports, after industrial salt was detected in Polish ham, and horse DNA was found in imported beef burgers. (nh)
