Following the decision of the EU to impose further sanctions on Moscow, Russia decided on Tuesday to place an embargo on the import of Polish fruit and vegetables.

Officially, the decision was taken as Russian sanitary inspectors claim that Polish fruit and veg often do not meet Russian phytosanitary standards.
Rosselkhoznadzor, the Moscow government’s sanitary watchdog, announced that Russia will close its markets to some Polish fruit and veg from 1 August.
The embargo will affect imports of Polish apples, as well as all cabbage-related plants, including cauliflowers. (jb)
