Grupa Allegro, the operator of auction site Allegro.pl and a number of other e-commerce and information websites, has announced it would cut employment.

The company will dismiss some 90 people in a group layoff procedure. It also plans to outsource some of its activity and transfer another 80 employees to outside units. Another 70 people will change positions within the group.

Allegro said it would restructure its divisions responsible for marketing, corporate customer services, IT, finance and administration. The official goal is to better focus on key activities and better support the group's business segments.

The company has already submitted information on the layoffs to the local labor office. It will also hold talks with employee representatives to discuss the details of the restructuring.

The changes may be part of a larger process in the capital group. In March this year, the company closed down its group purchasing website Citeam.pl and in June it did the same for Lokalo.pl, an accommodation search site.

According to media reports, the group may also be selling its business information site Bankier.pl and social networking site Wykop.pl.

At the same time, Grupa Allegro has said that it would hire a group of programming engineers. It has also announced plans to open a new office, in Krakow. It already has offices in Poznan, Warsaw, Torun and Wroclaw. (kw)
