PGNiG said that it has increased orders in connection with the process of filling the company's gas caverns, which have been recently extended. As Gazprom failed to provide higher amounts of gas, the Polish company used imports from the west and south to fill the caverns, the statement says.

The release, issued jointly by PGNiG and pipeline operator Gaz-System, also said that between 10-16 October gas supplies from the east were stable.

“All final recipients of gas in Poland are receiving gas in accordance with their demand,” the companies assured.

In the past week, Poland used some 36 million cubic metres of gas daily, the statement also read. In the previous week usage was at 33 million cubic metres and a month ago – at 27 million cubic metres.

Underground caverns currently store some 2.7 billion cubic metres of the fuel. A week earlier there was 2.6 billion cubic meters in the storage areas.

Since mid September this year, PGNiG has been saying that Gazprom's deliveries of natural gas are lower than its increased orders, at some points by as much as 45 percent. Other countries in the region, such as the Czech Republic and Hungary, have also recorded lower gas imports. (kw)
