GM plans further investment in Tychy

US-based automotive giant GM has confirmed it will expand its production plant in the Silesian city.

The company will invest about 250 million euro into the manufacturing of engines and transmissions at the Polish factory.
The project is connected to other investments planned in the German cities of Russelsheim and Kaiserslautern.
Altogether, GM will spend about 750 million on investments in both Germany and Poland.
In Tychy, GM plans to produce 1.6 litre diesel engines. The new part of the facility will be launched in 2017 and is expected to have a production capacity of 200,000 engines annually.
The factory will be expanded by some 12,000 square metres.
The company did not state whether it would increase employment at the plant, but vowed not to make any cuts.
General Motors Manufacturing Poland, which now combines the Tychy unit with the Opel factory in Gliwice, employs about 3,500 people at the moment.
A month ago, the company announced it would create more than 300 new jobs in Gliwice, where a new Opel Astra model will be produced, starting from late 2015. (kw)
