Poland's biggest railway freight company has struck an agreement with its employee organizations to carry out the process.

We are in the process of preparing a voluntary redundancy programme,” PKP Cargo's management board member Dariusz Browarek told Newseria.

It will be a typical programme, with employees aware that they are protected.”

He added that the scheme was discussed with employees and that it will now have to be approved by the company's supervisory board.

The goal is to cut down employment in the firm, but only in some areas.

It is not our idea to create an option for 'everyone who wants to leave,'” Browarek said.

There are segments of PKP Cargo's activity that need more, and not fewer, employees. This year the company recruited some 500 train engine drivers, for example.

PKP Cargo, which was in a collective dispute with its employees for a considerable time, now prides itself on the recently received “Trustworthy Employer” title.

It shows that we are in line with European standards,” Browarek said.

The collective dispute was resolved this year. The company then raised salaries and introduced extra bonuses. Before its Warsaw Stock Exchange debut last year it signed a 10-year agreement with employee representatives. (kw)
