German contractor Uhde Inventa-Fischer has been commissioned to build the factory, which will produce polyamide. Construction is scheduled to be completed in December 2016.

The facility will be located in Tarnow, a southern Polish city that houses the Grupa Azoty headquarters, in an area covered by the Krakow Special Economic Zone.

Thanks to the new unit, the company will be able to increase its polyamide production capacity by 80,000 tonnes.

Products from the new installation will comply with the highest world quality standards,” the company's statement said.

The unit is being built at a time of increased demand, said deputy CEO Witold Szczypinski.

“Companies across the world use some 9 million tonnes of polyamide annually,” he said.

Thanks to a higher production capacity, Grupa Azoty will be better prepared for changes on the market and will become more independent,” Szczypinski added.

The company also expects the new unit to help it shift its sales focus from the Asian market to Europe. (kw)
