Poland’s banking industry as a whole may post a net loss of around PLN 1 billion (EUR 236 million) for the period of January 2015 due to accounting changes.
Changes in accounting for banks’ contributions to the deposit guarantee fund will add an estimated PLN 2-2.5 billion (EUR 472-591 million) to the industry’s costs in January.
Banks profits are expected to come under pressure in 2015, Fitch ratings agency said in a report. Nevertheless, bank returns will remain strong relative to those in other countries.
The agency sees the prospects for the industry as a whole as stable thanks to adequate capital ratios, solid liquidity, relative independence of foreign sources of financing and reduced exposure to mortgages denominated in foreign currencies. (an)
