The amount marks a 7 percent rise on last year’s expenditure, with most of the cash – some PLN 15.3 billion – being spent on Christmas, a 6 percent hike on last season’s figures.
According to KPMG, each Polish family will spend PLN 1,031, around PLN 50 more than last year.
However, Poles will fork out some PLN 10 billion on New Year’s Eve festivities, with each household footing a bill of almost PLN 700, with most of the funds going towards food and non-alcoholic beverages.
However, spending on alcohol is set to drop by 2 percent to PLN 860 million nationwide.
As many as 88 percent of people polled by KPMG already have plans for New Year’s Eve, with almost 60 percent saying that they will stay at home, while 12 percent have plans to go to privately-held parties.
The KPMG report also states that Poles will spend some PLN 4.6 billion on winter holidays this 2014/2015 season.
The poll was carried out by KPMG in the first half of December on a representative selection of 1,016 adult Poles. (jb)
