The project is run jointly by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA).

The competition is set to be announced in mid-January, the daily Puls Biznesu reports.

The move comes as Poland continually tops European rankings for worst road safety, with the popular opinion that Poland’s road surfaces are generally poor.

The NCBR and GDKKiA competition will be available for members of the academic community to support research and innovation in new road surfacing technologies, as well as traffic coordination and road safety.

An estimated budget of as much as PLN 50 million (around EUR 11.6 million) has been set aside for the joint project. (jb)
