AgustaWestland, an Anglo-Italian helicopter company, acquired PZL Świdnik, Poland's largest helicopter manufacturer, in 2010. The company has signed an agreement with Rosneft to sell 160 AW189 helicopters by 2025.

It was announced that the AW189s, which can transport 16 people each and have a maximum cruising speed of 287 km per hour, would be manufactured in Russia by HeliVert, a joint venture between AgustaWestland and Russian Helicopters.

However the Polish daily Rzeczpospolita has reported that part of the helicopters will be produced in PZL Świdnik’s factory near Lublin, south-eastern Poland.

AgustaWestland have confirmed this news, and have commented that the deal will strengthen Świdnik’s position within the helicopter group.

The Anglo-Italian company AgustaWestland is currently offering the related AW149 military medium-lift helicopter as part of a tender to purchase 70 new multi-task helicopters for the Polish army. (sl)
