Speaking to the Polish Press Agency, Monday, Environment Minister Maciej Grabowski said that this year’s invesments are higher than the average annual sums seen over the past ten years.

The financial situation of LP is “good enough to cover financial obligations which were placed on them by the updated forestry bill,” Grabowski underlined.

Regulations require LP to pay into the state budget, with payments for 2014-2015 amounting to PLN 1.6 billion. However, from 2016 Polish forests will pay two percent from their annual income into the state coffers.

Director General of LP, Adam Wasiak said that 60-70 percent of the investments will be allocated to the creation of forest tracks, with the aim of impoving the transport of timber, fire protection as well as public accessibility. The remainder of the funds is to be put towards various projects, Wasiak stated.

Adam Wasiak added according to preliminary figures, LP closed 2014 with a PLN 400 million profit, with 90 percent of revenues coming from the sale of timber.

LP also leases industrial and agricultural grounds, with revenues amounting to between PLN 60-70 million last year.

In 2015, LP expects to produce 38 million cubic metres of timber, up around 1 million on last year’s figures. Sales from timber for 2014 are expected to amount to PLN 6.6 billion. (jb)
