Speaking to journalists, director of the Chamber, Marek Adamowicz said “the Polish furniture industry is a major success,” adding that “[Poland] holds an important position in Europe and the world, and we are standing our ground”.

Currently, Poland is the world’s fourth largest furniture exporter, with most products bound for neighbouring Germany. Poland is also seventh in terms of furniture production globally, Adamowicz said.

“2014 was another very good year in terms of the development of the industry,” Adamowicz stated, adding that apart from Germany, Polish furniture is also making ground in the Czech Republic and France.

“One can say that business is developing in every market we are present,” Adamowicz said.

However, Marek Adamowicz underlined that in order for the Polish furniture industry to grow, “a priority is the advancement of design and innovation in terms of research and development”.

“There is no chance for development without an increase in competitiveness and innovation,” he added.

According to 2013 figures, there are 24,000 furniture companies operational in Poland, 100 of which are large firms which employ more than 250 people.

The numbers also reveal that there are around 350 medium-sized enterprises with between 50-250 employees and around 1,500 companies with up to 50 people. The remainder are so-called microenterprises. (jb)
