“We are doing everything to bring down the population,” said Jan Budnik from the Polish Hunting Association in the southern town of Nowy Sącz.
Budnik told Polish Radio that hunters are not keen on targeting wild boar sows on ethical grounds.
The environment ministry has shortened protection periods for wild boar sows to three months, with the season open for the animals between 1 January – 15 February and from 15 May to the end of the year. (jb)
