The blue pills, made to resemble the erectile-dysfunction medicine made by US Pfizer pharmaceuticals, were trafficked into Poland inside boxes of computer equipment.

Two men involved in trafficking have been detained. The raid also saw the confiscation of some PLN 1.5 million in conterfeit Viagra.

The pills were sold from a shop selling electronic gadgets and car accessories, the spokesperson for the border guards, Dagmara Bielec-Janas, told IAR news service.

“The pills were shipped together with GPS devices, and packets of four pills each were inserted in the box which would contain the clip to hold the devices,” the spokesperson said.

Most of the customers of the counterfeit pills were from Western Europe, where real Viagra is much more expensive, the spokesperson added.

Viagra was first developed by Pfizer as a medicine for acute angina, but laboratory testing revealed it had a very interesting side-effect. It was first sold in 1998. (rg)
