Poles registering 3,000 domains daily in 2014

A new report published by NASK, Poland’s top-level domain registrar, reveals that an average of 2,818 domains were registered daily in 2014, with around 400 daily ‘.pl’ registrations.

At the end of last year, NASK had over 2.5 million ‘.pl’ domains registered in its database.

The report shows that the first quarter of 2014 was the most active in terms domain registrations, with 361 ‘.pl’ registrations daily, with a total of 63,039 top-level Polish domains being registered in 2014.

“Analysis of the ‘.pl’ domain registry shows steady growth over the years compared to other registers,” head of NASK, Michał Chrzanowski said in a statement on the publication’s release.

At the end of 2014, there were exactly 2,524,538 active ‘.pl’ domains, making it the eleventh most widely used domain suffix globally, ahead of Canada (‘.ca’) and Switzerland (‘.ch’). In the EU, the Polish ‘.pl’ domain is in sixth position.

At the end of 2014 there were over 947,000 holders of ‘.pl’ domains, a rise of 33,000 on 2013. Commerical entities and other organisations hold 65.41 percent of the Polish domains, while 34.59 percent are held by individual users.

The report also found that most of the domains are registered by users in the Mazovian province, with 24.84 percent, while 16.97 percent of domains are registered to addresses in the capital, Warsaw. (jb)
