Poland’s treasury ministry attempted to stem the publication of the critical report on the construction of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at the Baltic port of Świnoujście.

The Supreme Audit Office (NIK) released on Monday a report criticising the ministry for failure to prevent delays in the terminal’s construction. While the original contract envisaged its opening by June 2014, the amended deadline of end-2014 has also been missed.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Agnieszka Jabłońska-Twaróg told the Polish Radio the secrecy was needed due to ongoing negotiations with Saipem, the builder of the terminal in north-west Poland by the border with Germany. The Italian company is asking for extra money to complete the construction. (an)
