The Polish Information and Foreign Investment (PAIiIZ) is interested in developing trade with Mali, stressing the African country’s economic potential and multiple areas of possible Polish investment.

PAIiIZ hosted a seminar on the topic of Polish-Malian economic relations, with the intention of including the country in its so-far successful GoAfrica program.

Trade volume is currently low, as in 2014 Poland exported goods worth EUR 2.9 million to Mali and imports were worth EUR 2.7 million.

However PAIiIZ director Sławomir Majman has expressed hopes that this will increase rapidly, pointing to countries such as Algeria which have been included in GoAfrica and have subsequently seen dramatic increases in bilateral trade.

Majman also suggested further expansion of GoAfrica in future, commenting “We want to gradually include all the largest economies of the African continent in the GoAfrica program.”

Potential areas for trade and investment between Mali and Poland mentioned at the seminar included agriculture, mining, energy and construction.

Mali has a large mining industry and is the third largest gold producer in Africa, so could benefit from Polish investment in the sector. (sl/rg)
