The helicopter arm of the company has plans to create around 3,750 jobs in Poland over the next five years, the company’s CEO, Guillaume Faury, told a news conference on Monday.

“We're talking about 1,250 direct jobs and 2,500 indirect jobs,” Faury said.

“We are committed to being in Poland in the long-term, this is not an offset-like approach, we are in a home country.”

According to the company’s website, Poland has become “an established and internationally recognised industry leader, supplying parts for the full range of Airbus aircraft.”

The company’s sourcing from Poland “amounts to around EUR 191 million, including aerostructures, systems and services, and [Airbus] employs a local workforce of 850 highly skilled employees.”

Poland signed a contract for the supply 50 helicopters to the country’s army last week.

Three firms were competing in the tender for multi-task military helicopters, which apart from Airbus consisted of the Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation and Agusta Westland PZL Świdnik.

It had previously been expected that Poland would buy 70 helicopters, but the government decided to delay purchasing some of the planned transport helicopters as Soviet-built Mi-17 helicopters currently in use by the Polish Armed Forces can remain in service for the immediate future. (rg)
