Speaking at a conference in Rzeszów, Monday, Treasury Minister Włodzimierz Karpiński said that since PGNiG is a “sure, stable and predictable consumer”, the company has “strong arguments” to draw up a contract which would be “more elastic and effective for the Polish economy”.

Asked on the European Commission’s recent objections to Gazprom which allege that the Russian gas company is abusing its market position and is in breach of the EU’s antitrust regulations, Karpiński said that these may “hinder Gazprom’s business in the European market”.

However, the minister underlined that the relations between PGNiG and Gazprom was business as usual, adding that the next round of bilateral negotiations was set “for a window in November”. (jb)
