Transport overhaul due for Polish cities

Over the next six years, Polish cities nationwide are to gain 600 new trams, 100 kilometres of new tracks, with an additional 200 kilometres of lines to be upgraded.

Municipal authorities across Poland are set to receive some PLN 13 billion in EU funds to finance the investments.

Poland’s capital Warsaw is set to gain PLN 2.2 billion in EU funds, which are to be put towards the purchasing of 180 new trams and the modernisation of 20 km of existing tram lines.

Meanwhile, the southern city of Kraków is to receive PLN 2 billion while the Baltic city of Gdańsk is to gain PLN 1.6 billion in EU funds for tram investments. (jb)
