The level of unemployment in Poland is at its lowest in seven years, according to Labour Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

“A good situation has been maintained on the labour market for several months. This is not a seasonal trend,” Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz told Polish Radio.

The Minister explained that a new tranche to the tune of PLN 150 million has been earmarked to combat unemployment.

He added that the government’s programme also supports older people.

“Companies cannot employ people based on only one age group. There must be an age mix – both elderly and experienced, and young people, working their way up,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.

He added that junior coalition member Polish People's Party (PSL) proposes changes in the pension system – with a possibility of retiring after working for 40 years.

The unemployment rate stood at 10.3 percent in June, according to the Central Statistical Office (GUS). (rg/rk)
