Poland to start exporting beef to Israel

Israeli inspectors have positively assessed Poland's supervision of beef cattle breeding and slaughter, opening the doors for Polish meat exports to the country.

Three meat plants in Poland have been granted export licences, the Polish Agriculture Ministry has said.
"On 10-13 August, a group of Israeli inspectors visited Polish beef meat plants to evaluate their concordance with Israeli requirements and Poland's veterinary supervision," the ministry wrote in a press release.
Poland’s Constitutional Court in December overturned an earlier ban on the ritual slaughter of animals saying it was not in line with the country’s constitution.
Reuters estimated in an article in 2013 that as much as 90 percent of Polish beef was exported, with a third destined for the kosher and halal markets in the Middle East. The exports were then valued at EUR 1 billion. (rg/rk)
