Household bills for gas have been cut as of 1 September, after the Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) introduced a methane-rich gas price reduction for consumers and small and medium-sized companies.

The average price cut is 6.5 percent, the state-owned company said.

President of PGNiG’s retail department Tomasz Bukowski told Polish Radio that customers will feel a smaller change in their pockets as the fee for gaseous fuels is only one of the components of the total bill.

“The change will range on average from 3 to 4.5 percent," he said.

Subscription fees and charges for natural gas remain unchanged.

This is the second reduction in prices for consumers this year after new tariffs were approved by the Energy Regulatory Office (URE) in August.

Gas prices are linked to oil prices and with the latter falling around 50 percent in recent months, gas prices are following suit. Poland has noted several months of deflation and lower energy costs are one of the key factors stifling domestic price growth. (jh/rk)
