The image of happy farm animals grazing in the fields runs deep. But a new toy, Your Farm, released by Compassion in World Farming offers a grim reality check.

“The point we’re trying to make is that it is possible to have the kind of idyllic animal farming, which the advertisers portray, but that’s not the truth of the situation now,” the head of Compassion in World Farming Polska, Krzysztof Mularczyk, told Polish Radio's Alicja Baczyńska. “We’re not in favour of hiding that truth either from the general public or even from children.”

Some 50 billion animals reared for food, that’s two out of three, are kept at intensive factory farms.

Compassion in World Farming was founded in 1967 by a British farmer who became horrified by the development of modern, intensive factory farming.

Today it campaigns peacefully to end all factory farming practices.
