“The failure of PGNiG to adhere to a UOKiK decision on removing the restriction on reducing the amount of gas ordered in contracts with customers,” led to the fine, the watchdog said on Thursday.

The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) recalled in a statement, that in December 2013 it had issued a decision obliging PGNiG to remove the clause from its contracts.

"The content of the obligation was set by PGNiG SA which, on its own initiative, proposed amendments to the contracts, which it said would offset concerns in the contractual clauses put forward by [UOKiK],” the statement read.

State-controlled PGNiG is one of the largest gas distributors in CEE.

The fine did not greatly affect the stock price of the company on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, where it has been listed for the last 10 years. (rg/rk)
