The likelihood that Poland ever enters the eurozone is next to none, says one of the country’s lenders, mBank, the Polish arm of Germany's Comerzbank.

The tweet caught the attention of Jakub Borowski (@_Jakub_Borowski), chief economist at Credit Agricole Bank Poland, who wrote that "Theoretically ([according to] many assumptions) the earliest possible date of #euro adoption in #Poland is 2023."

To this mBank replied:

Poland joined the EU in 2004, yet has never adopted the common currency. Many experts say that based on the current economic upheavals in the EU18 bloc, it is unlikely that Poland will ever join, remaining with the złoty currency, largely unpegged against foreign currencies.

The PiS party, which received most votes in Sunday’s ballot is Eurosceptic, and is a member of the Alliance of European Conservatives and Reformists in the European Parliament. (rg/rk)
