The EU’s sixth-largest economy has thus outpaced the Western powerhouses of France, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

The result marks a major headway for the country, which ranked 75th nearly a decade ago, writes daily Puls Biznesu.

The annual index run by the World Bank looks into an array of business-related areas that ease doing business in countries, such as starting a business, registering property, and enforcing contracts.

The assessment gave Poland a top spot among all 189 rated economies in trading across borders, a result linked to improved port procedures.

The country saw its biggest leap, by 80 places, in the "dealing with constructions permits" category.

As experts point out, the strong advancement is owed to an amendment of construction laws and a positive assessment of the country’s construction supervision services.

Meanwhile, Singapore retained its top position in the global ranking. (aba/rg/rk)
