The study found that Polish families expect to spend an average of PLN 1282 (EUR 302) this year, well below the average of EUR 513 noted across the fourteen countries surveyed by Deloitte.

Books are the most popular choice of present among Poles, followed by money and then cosmetics. This is in contrast to the majority of other countries in the survey, where money came first.

Divided by gender, men plan to spend PLN 1383 (EUR 326) on Christmas in contrast to women who plan to spend PLN 1184 (EUR 279). The highest-spending age group will be 35-44 year olds, while the lowest spenders will be 18-24 year olds.

The highest spending among the fourteen countries will be in the UK, where families expect to spend an average of EUR 884, followed by the Netherlands and France in second and third positions respectively.

The lowest planned spending is in Russia, where families are expected to spend an average of just EUR 217. Poland’s PLN 1282 (EUR 302) placed it third from bottom in the ranking.

Deloitte’s survey had 14,000 respondents overall from 14 countries, of which around 800 came from Poland. (sl/nh)
