Poland attracts growing number of Asian tourists

There is an ongoing, “steady increase in tourists coming from China, India and Japan to Poland,” the Polish Tourist Organisation (POT) indicated at a press conference on Monday.

“We wanted to show that Poland is an interesting tourist destination by securing a lasting role in the media,” Emilia Kubik, the “I Love Poland” campaign manager, stated at the event centered on the promotion of Polish tourism in Asia.

Tourists from China, Japan and India provide the “potential for tourism development and can generate maximum benefits for [the country],” deputy director of POT, ElżbietaWąsowicz-Zaborek, told the press.

“Aside from UNESCO heritage sites, studies show that the main point of travel for Chinese [tourists] is shopping,”advisor to POT director, Robert Kępiński pointed out, adding that they “spend large sums”.

Over 600,000 Polish advertisements, targeting consumers, the media, businesses and tour-operators, have been shown on television and newspapers throughout China, Japan and India, leading to about 100 tour operators including Poland in their catalogues.

Japanese tourists visiting Poland have increased to over 50,000 in 2014, up from 39,000 in 2011.

2014 saw a total of 18,000 Indian tourists, up by 7,000 compared to 2011.

The “I Love Poland” campaign ends in November 2015 after nearly two years.

Polish President, Andrzej Duda, is expected to sign a bilateral agreement regarding travel with China on Wednesday, which coincides with the opening of POT's 13th foreign center in the Chinese capital, the organisation's second outpost in the region. (ua/aba/rk)
